Making Our Place: A Celebration of Albert I. Cassell and the Mayfair/Parkside Neighborhood
July 29, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
FreeMaking Our Place celebrates the historical and living legacy of African American architect Albert Irvin Cassell. The event will bring the history of Mayfair Mansions, which Cassell designed, into the present by tracing the redevelopment of Mayfair and neighboring Paradise at Parkside, with an emphasis on community voice and leadership. With the coordination of programming partner Verbal Gymnastics, DC’s own playback theater troupe, guests will engage in civic storytelling activities to create a multi-generational narrative of Mayfair/Parkside, from the memories of older residents to the aspirations of young families. Community Resource Vendors will share information on topics like health and reading.
