The Sacred Imagined: Portraits of Afrodescendant Spirituality on Screen

This interactive screening and panel discussion featuring short works and film selects from Haiti, Brazil, Jamaica, and the US will explore the imaginative representation of Afro-descendant spiritual practices and the personal pathways of filmmakers—across cultural geographies. The imagination of rituals—such as divination, spirit possession, and ecstatic dance—on screen invites inquiry into the role of Afro-descendant creators in the transmission of ancestral knowledge and mythologies.
Presented as part of the Humanitini series sponsored by DCHumanities.
