The Sacred Imagined: Portraits of Afrodescendant Spirituality on Screen
January 26, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeThis interactive screening and panel discussion featuring short works and film selects from Haiti, Brazil, Jamaica, and the US will explore the imaginative representation of Afro-descendant spiritual practices and the personal pathways of filmmakers—across cultural geographies. The imagination of rituals—such as divination, spirit possession, and ecstatic dance—on screen invites inquiry into the role of Afro-descendant creators in the transmission of ancestral knowledge and mythologies.
Presented as part of the Humanitini series sponsored by DCHumanities.
