Grantee Event: The Meaning Behind the Music
December 15, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pmStarts with $20
The Washington Arts Ensemble is DC’s classical music community, offering classical chamber music concerts with an emphasis on connection between audience members and performers. In keeping with holiday celebrations around the globe, our December concert will explore how various composers found meaning in music, whether it be through tradition, worship, or simply gratitude and purpose. Highlights will include the solo cello suites of the great J.S. Bach, and several solo piano works: the Vingt Regards of Oliver Messaien, who was a prisoner of war during WWII in France, and Corpus Christi en Sevilla by Spanish composer Issac Albeniz. The concert will close with Felix Mendelssohn’s second piano trio, an homage to the role of the spiritual in his life. Pianists and cofounders Christopher Schmitt and Natalia Kazaryan will be joined by series regular cellist Joseph Gotoff, and the young prodigious talent of Bulgarian/Japanese violinist Julia Angelov. The concert will take place at the historic Arts Club of Washington, and tickets include receptions both before and after the concert with hors d’oeuvres and an open wine and beer bar.
