HumanitiesDC joined the celebration this summer during the re-dedication of the Duke Ellington Mural painted by G. Byron Peck. A mainstay of the U Street corridor streetscape, the Duke Ellington mural was removed in 2012 due to structural issues with the True Reformer Building. The mural was returned on May 3rd.
The program featured a panel discussion featuring with Jazz Historian Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DC Historian Blair Ruble, and the creator of the Ellington Mural, G. Byron Peck. The panel was moderated by Shellee Haynesworth, creator of the Black Broadway on U project.
