New Program Will Preserve DC Veterans’ Historic Memorabilia
HumanitiesDC is looking for local veterans interested in preserving and sharing their stories. October 5th we will present our first City of Memory: DC Veterans at the Armed Forces Retirement Home from 1 to 4 p.m. This new program will give veterans the opportunity to bring their historical memorabilia to an “Antiques Roadshow-style” event where the materials will be digitized and returned immediately. One copy of the digital versions will be kept in the DC Digital Museum where they will be accessible to researchers, educators, and students, and another copy will be placed on a flash drive and given to the contributor. Contributors will also be given the option to record a brief oral history about the items they bring, or about their experience in the military. If you are interested in participating in this program, please register at dcvetsmemory.eventbrite.com

This program is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Standing Together Project, and is based on the Mass Memories Roadshow, a project of the MassHumanities and the University of Massachusetts Boston.
