As part of our grantmaking process, HumanitiesDC engages external grant reviewers to decide how funding is allocated. This consists of recruiting community members, humanities scholars and experts to participate in trainings, rate applications and collectively choose grantees to receive awards. This process is facilitated by HumanitiesDC staff and verified by our Board of Directors.

- Have professional or personal experience in a certain humanities discipline?
- Are you a current HumanitesDC grantee or considering applying in the future? Live in or around Washington, DC?
This is a great opportunity to use your skills to improve our community and meet other people who share your passion for the District’s humanities activities.
A few more things to know:
- Grant reviewers thoroughly evaluate up to 15 proposals, which takes approximately 16 hours over the course of 2 to 3 weeks, and participate in approximately 3 hours of virtual and/or in-person meetings;
- The evaluation process occurs during Cycle I: February to March, and Cycle 2: May to June;
- Reviewers receive a $250 honorarium for every cycle they complete. The honorarium is not provided if a reviewer does not fully participate through the completion of the evaluation process;
- Reviewers can participate in more than one cycle per year.
- Reviewers can still apply for grant funding.
- Reviewer intake forms are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, but are especially appreciated from July through January.

To be considered as a reviewer, please provide your contact information below. We will then create an account for you in Foundant, our grant review portal. You will receive an email from Foundant inviting you to continue completing your grant reviewer application in the system. Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise, interests, and the number of grant applications that HumanitiesDC receives each cycle.
