SUMMARY:Last Supper Daily Viewings
DESCRIPTION:Studio Acting Conservatory announces a week of daily viewings for the public to experience the Last Supper sculpture\, by artist Akili Ron Anderson. Created by artist Akili Ron Anderson in the early 1980s as a commission for the New Home Baptist Church\, Jesus and his disciples are depicted as African American men\, an example of the artist’s mission of placing Black people in the center of an ongoing cultural conversation. Since its discovery in 2019\, the massive 20-foot wide Last Supper sculpture has been cleaned\, repaired and conserved by the National Museum of African American History and Culture. NMAAHC also created a 3D rendering of the sculpture\, which has been accessioned into its permanent collection. Anderson\, a tenured art professor at Howard University\, is considered part of the Black Arts Movement of the 1970s\, and is a member of the AfriCobra Collective. The Last Supper sculpture will be open to the public from 1-4pm daily\, during the week of Passover and Easter. SUMMARY:DC Environmental Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital (DCEFF) returns for its 31st year with in-person and virtual programming March 16-26. The 2023 event will highlight over 100 films and offer screenings and expert discussions on issues like climate change\, environmental justice\, and wildlife conservation. Film highlights include: DEEP RISING\, narrated by Executive Producer Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN\, DUNE)\, Oscar-nominee ALL THAT BREATHES\, and WILD LIFE\, the new documentary from FREE SOLO filmmakers Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi. The Festival will also include the return of DCEFF’s free conversationseries The Forum\, which will offer insider panels on corporate corruption\, equity and inclusion in the outdoors\, and storytelling during times of war. In-person screenings and events will take place at partner venues across the DC Metro Area\, including the Naval Heritage Center\, Eaton DC\, National Geographic Museum\, E Street Cinema\, Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History\, as well as many other museums\, embassies\, universities and cultural institutions.
