SUMMARY:A Forum on The History of Adams Morgan
DESCRIPTION:The History of the Adams Morgan Plaza is a forum and photo exhibit about the long community life of the corner of 18th St and Columbia Rd NW. The forum will cover the time of the Knickerbocker Theatre disaster in 1922 to 2022\, when Truist Bank put a fence around the plaza. The presence of an easement on the plaza has been the focus of litigation since 2016. The program will educate the community on the specific issues included in the litigation and why it’s important the plaza remain a public space for continued community use. The exhibit will go up in the community room of the Mount Pleasant Library on September 17th and remain up for 1 month. The library will participate in Art All Night in Mount Pleasant on 9/29. DESCRIPTION:Adams Morgan is home to generations of organizing to build a liberated and inclusive community. Work in this neighborhood reshaped the social terrain and had wide-ranging implications. Neighborhood Power is an interactive multimedia installation and short documentary film that weaves the stories of community leaders\, activists\, and residents who came together and changed the world. The installation is on display in Walter Pierce Park\, Adams Mill & Ontario Road NW\, from September 10th to September 30th. Bring headphones for the full experience. A pop-up film screenings and community conversation with past and present local organizers will happen in the park September 30th at 7:30pm.
