SUMMARY:Grantee Event: A Musical Offering
DESCRIPTION:The Washington Arts Ensemble is DC’s classical music community\, offering classical chamber music concerts with an emphasis on connection between audience members and performers. The concert on January 14\, will highlight the pioneering voices of African-American women and the men who supported them\, the collaboration between the sexes in poetry and song\, and the progressive integration of thematic content and musical texture\, providing the essence of this artistic tribute to such a relevant piece of American history. Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Chrystal Williams returns from the Metropolitan Opera to offer a program of Art Songs with pianist and cofounder Natalia Kazaryan. H.T. Burleigh’s “Five Songs of Laurence Hope” will be performed alongside Ottorino Resphigi’s “Quattro Canzone\,” based on a text by Ada Negri. Spirituals by Margaret Bonds and Undine Smith Moore\, “The Dean of Black Women Composers\,” will be featured beside the world premiere of “They Walk Alone\,” a collaboration between Ms. Williams’ and her husband: composer\, Felipe Hostin. The concert will take place at the historic Arts Club of Washington\, and tickets include receptions both before and after the concert with hors d’oeuvres and an open wine and beer bar. \nEvent Details\nType: Performance \nHost: Washington Arts Ensemble\, featuring cofounder of the Washington Arts Ensemble and pianist\, Natalia Kazaryan\, and Chrystal Williams\, Soprano\, Metropolitan Opera \nDate: January 14\, 2023 @ 6:30-9:30pm \nLocation: Arts Club of Washington 2017 I St. NW\, Washington DC 20006 \nEvent Fee: $20-$65\, Purchase tickets HERE. \n  \nFor More Information\nContact: Christopher Schmitt\, Pianist and Cofounder \nWebsite: washingtonartsensemble.org \nEmail: info@washingtonartsensemble.org \nPhone: 571.235.4276
