Guest Moderator: Benji de la Piedra
Featuring: Damien Freierson, Judy Waxman and Pandit Wright
The DC Oral History Collaborative began offering free oral history training to DC residents in 2017. The three-session course, originally developed by Benji de la Piedra, introduced participants to many of the typical practices employed by oral historians through a combination of readings and interactive exercises. The trainings aimed to provide a solid foundation while also encouraging trainees to develop their own individual styles, techniques and interpretation. Since 2017 over 160 people have participated in the training sessions updated annually by DCOHC trainers Anna Kaplan, PhD and Maggie Lemere. De la Piedra will moderate this special session of the DCOHC coffee chat featuring three oral historians who he taught during the inaugural training session. They will discuss the impact the training had on their ongoing oral history work and the skills and techniques they’ve gained through practical experience.
The program is free; registration is required. Please register by Friday, December 17 at 5 pm.
