Learn about the practice of oral history, its guiding principles and philosophies, and where to find additional resources.
The DC Oral History Collaborative’s Intro to Oral History Workshop introduces Washingtonians to the basic philosophies, principles and practices of oral history. Participants will gain an initial understanding of what goes into producing an oral history interview – from project planning and research to the interview and basic preservation. Participants will leave the session with a deeper understanding of what “doing oral history” involves. The session also helps participants understand ways in which oral history can be utilized within one’s family, community, and historic and/or artistic practices. It directs participants to other online and written resources they can use to further their knowledge and encourages everyone to attend one of the Collaborative’s Oral History Interviewer Training Workshop for more in-depth training on the practice.
This virtual program will take place remotely via Zoom. Please note that the session will be recorded.
